Darwinia is a strategy/arcade game with a twist. The game features a digital Internet theme-park, where Darwinians live peacefully until a computer virus starts wiping them out. When you enter Darwinia, you are given the command of computer forces that can get rid of the virus. But the task is anything but simple.
The first level gives you two types of units to complete a set of objectives. You can create squads and engineers. The squads can attack the virus and the engineer can pick up research pieces and clean virus leftovers. The virus is represented by a sort of red line that goes about the map. It looks like the snake from an old classic. It moves and reacts to what you do. So if you send your squad to it, the virus will most likely eat you before you can get away.
Graphically, the world is depicted as a 3D map which looks highly polygonal. The squads are limited to the part of the map that looks like ground, whereas the engineers can float everywhere on the map. When you successfully complete each mission, the game rewards you with different weapons and unit types. At the end of the first level, for example, you get a grenade launcher for your squads. There is an extensive help system, which brings a picture of the creator of the Darwinia theme-park, along with tips and objective updates.
